LITERACY STANDARDS ALIGNED TO Project Citizen/We The People/Foundations of Democracy
Background: Rhode Island has joined New Hampshire and Vermont into a consortium entitled “New England Common Assessment Program (NECAP). The purpose of NECAP is the design, implementation and assessment of common literacy/numeracy Grade Level Expectation (GLE’s) and Grade Span Expectations (GSE’s). Through funding from the Center for Civic Education (CCE), Calabasas, California, Michael A. Trofi, commissioned Judy Ouellette, West Warwick Public Schools English Language Arts (ELA) Standards Specialist to align GLE’s/GSE’s Literacy Standards to three Center for Civic Education texts. These texts are: Project Citizen, We the People: the Citizen and the Constitution and Foundations of Democracy. The attached literacy standards alignment with civic education materials is an endeavor to assist educators in the NECAP consortium to meet the daily demands of their craft.
